What do I do if my child is late for school?

Please sign your child in at the office and get a late slip.  Many times our attendance has been completed and the office must be notified.  Please remember that when your child is late, they miss many of our entry and circle time routines which causes a "rocky" start to the day.  BE ON TIME!!!

What should my child have at school every day?

Your child needs to bring a backpack every day to school with the following items:

  • take home folder (in the ziploc bag)
  • change of clothing in the backpack (make sure you check the clothing from time to time for seasonal appropriatness and size.  There is nothing worse than having to wear shorts home in the wintertime.
  • lunch bag (healthy foods please!)
  • library book (Monday/Tuesday)
  • Borrow-A-Book (take home reading program)
  • indoor running shoes (Your child is in the gym everyday and must have running shoes.  Please keep the fancy shoes, sandals and crocs for outdoor wear or special days like picture day.)

 When is library day?

Library day is on Wednesdays for the Mon./Wed. class and Tuesdays for the Tues./Thurs. class.  Your child independently selects a book of their choice from the appropriate section of the library (don't be surprised if you get the same book home for weeks in a row!).   They will bring home their library book in a plastic book bag.  The book must be returned on his/her library day (in the bag) for your child to get a new book.

When will the Borrow-A-Book program start?

The SK students will begin bringing home a little reader in October.   The JK students will begin this program in term 2 when proper book handling skills have been demonstrated.

If I have a question or concern, how do I contact my child's teacher?

If you have a question or concern, please contact Mrs. Bergerson via phone or note.  If you have a concern you would like to address in person, please contact Mrs. Bergerson to set up a meeting time during regular school hours.

When are the sharing calendars due?

Sharing calendars are due back to Mrs. Bergerson on the last day of the month.  (See monthly calendar as this may vary.)

 What is the "Zipper Club"?

The "Zipper Club" is the kindergarten way of encouraging our students to learn to zip up their coats independently.  Once your child can zip up his/her coat/sweater independently, he/she will recieve a certificate and will be an official member of this special club.  Start practising now!

What should my child be able to do independently right now?

JK Independence Skills             SK Independence Skills

Which Fridays does my child come to school?

Please refer to the Full Day/Alternate Day Kindergarten Calendar 2011.  The white blocks are the Monday/Wednesday days and the shaded areas are the Tuesday/Thursday days.

Click here for the 2011-2012 Yearly Kindergarten Calendar.

What type of shoes should my child have at school?

Each student should have running shoes at school.  The students are in the gym everyday for recess and have gym class on Wednesday/Thursday.  Non-marking soles are required and dress shoes, Crocs and sandals are strongly discouraged as it can affect the saftey of the students when engaged in physical activity.  As well, please do not send lace-up shoes to school unless your child can independently tie the laces.

How should money be sent to school?

When money needs to be sent to school (e.g., field trips, milk program, fundraising), it should be inside the take home folder.  Money should never be loose inside the folder as it tends to be taken out by the student or it falls out.  Please enclose money with its form inside a ziploc bag or an envelope.  Please make sure every form and envelope/baggie is labelled with your child's name.
